BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Catharine Gilson, President

Catharine is one of the original founders of Hope Renews.  Her daughter is a graduate of Vista. Prior to becoming involved with Hope Renews, Cathy worked as the development  director of an independent school in southern California.  She was  also employed for many years as a public sector consultant on contract with the US Department of Justice and state and local governments  to address educational and juvenile justice issues.

Tracey O'Connell Sperry, Vice President

Tracey is one of the original founders of Hope Renews.  She lives in Litchfield County, Connecticut and has an extensive background in non-profit management.  She is currently the  Executive Director of The Home-to-Home Foundation, a Licensed Massage Therapist, and an artist.  Daughter Sarah is a freshman at Tufts University and son Chase, an alum of SUWS and VISTA, is a sophomore at Westminster College in Salt Lake City.

Patricia Oxman, Editor    

 

Patty lives in Marin County, California with her husband, Kip, where she works as a residential real estate broker.  Step-son, Joel, is off  the family payroll, living and working in San Francisco.  After Second Nature and Vista, her younger son, Graham, lives in Salt Lake City, where he works and attends college.

Anthony Iler

Mr. Iler is an attorney in private practice in Los Angeles.  He has spent his entire 21-year legal career at Irell & Manella LLP, specializing in mergers and acquisitions.  He has also provided legal services to several non-profit, pro bono clients over the years.   

Rodney P. Rempt

Vice Admiral Rempt (Ret.) served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 2007.  His last assignment was as Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  Prior to that he served as the President of the Naval War College, Assistant Chief of Naval Operations for Missile Defense and prior to that was the first Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Theater Combat Systems.

Anne Lewis

Ms. Lewis is an Educational Consultant in private practice.  She is an associate member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs and a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association.  She has first-hand knowledge of wilderness camps, residential treatment centers, and therapeutic boarding schools and has made over 500 on-site program assessments. 

Matthew B. Checketts

Matt Checketts is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the Executive Director, Owner and Primary Therapist at the Vista Counseling Services.  His clinical social work experience includes work with Murray School District, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, the Utah Department of Workforce Services, Valley Mental Health, and Vista Adolescent Treatment Center. Mr. Checketts is experienced in treating a variety of emotional difficulties including personality disorders, anorexia and bulimia, depression, sexual abuse, substance abuse, adoption, family discord, and conduct problems.
