Extended Family

FaMom and Grandmamily

Many parents of kids in treatment do not personally have the resources to fund their child’s care. In the absence of other funds, they often seek the help of their parents, siblings or any other family members who might be in a position to help pay. We have heard of parents, grandparents, siblings and other extended family members coming together to ensure a child’s treatment needs are met.

When you send a child to treatment, it is sometimes advisable to inform family members of why you have made this decision, what the cost may be and your plans for covering those expenses. Then, should you need their assistance, they will be fully informed of the circumstances that necessitated the placement.

In some cases a grandparent or other family member can make a gift of the funds for treatment. This may render the gift tax deductible to the recipient. We recommend that you speak with your tax accountant about this option.
